Facebook: The “Social” Success Facebook, the second largest social networking site worldwide, was started in February 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg (Zuckerberg), a 23-year-old who emulated Bill Gates by dropping out of Harvard University to build his own company. “Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them. People use Facebook to keep up with friends, upload and share an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet.”13 Facebook calls these network of friends that make up the user base as ‘social graph’... Facebook: Can it be ‘Googled’? Facebook has entered into an agreement inAugust 2006withMicrosoft, whichwill provide banner ads and sponsored links on Facebook.Microsoft also has plans to improve targeting for the display ads it brokers on Facebook.27 Facebook, however, is rumoured to have its own plans for an advertising platform that it hopes to announce by December 2007. It aims to display ads that appeal more to individual users, based on their personal information such as their music and movie tastes. MySpace has also started testing more targeted ads in early 2007... 1)Blogs (short for Web logs) are online journals or diaries hosted on a website.

through aggregators, such as iTunes.
4) Social networks allow members of specific sites to learn about other members’ skills, talents, knowledge, or
preferences. Commercial examples include Facebook and MySpace. Some companies use such systems
internally to help identify experts....
